I don’t particularly care to parse out someone else’s sex life, nor do I care to read their emails. But I would have liked to see more discussion of what a toxic work environment the higher echelons of the defense establishment must be. Whatever individual levels of sin are operative by any one person here, and again I don’t really care, I keep wondering what the aggregate must be like as a work environment. If the men at the top regard all professional activity as some sort of glorious sexual smorgasbord whenever women get thrown into the mix, that does have actual professional consequences.
This, this, this. I was going to repost that David Simon piece on sex lives being “irrelevant” because I do hate the way that we as a society get all panting and horny whenever carnal matters are brought into the public sphere. (Hey, remember when I used to work for a gossip blog network?) But systemic treatment of women by people in power is an important topic, and I hope a reporter with access is working on a story about how the old boys’ network is still intact, and how its continued existence reverberates throughout the gender dynamic of not just the government but the country.
Also the way that the media are portraying the women involved as some ersatz Real Housewives cast is disgusting.
