It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone. You count on it, rely on it to buffer the passage of time, to keep the memory of sunshine and high skies alive, and then just when the days are all twilight, when you need it most, it stops.

mondosalvo asked: We all know how much you love baseball. Do you have a collection of baseball caps? And, if so, do you ever wear one?
I don’t really — the combination of my giant head and my curly-yet-thin hair makes me extra-susceptible to hathead. I have a Mets cap that I wear every so often; I got it from an old MLB.com coworker of mine who had an extra one after giving out gift packages to the members of Cheap Trick on the occasion of their coming by the studio.
